Sunset and Snorkel Cruises

One of the best ways to experience Los Cabos is to take a snorkel or sunset cruise. Los Cabos has an excellent selection of boats. Three to four hour snorkel cruises depart from the San Lucas marina for Santa Maria or Chileno bays. Most of the vessels are fast stable catamarans, leaving around 10 a.m. Gear, guide, beverages and snacks are included. The trip takes about an hour each way with spectacular scenery. You are likely to see pods of dolphins, and, in season, gray and humpback whales as you cruise.

Two hour sunset tours cruise out to Land’s End, bringing you in for a close up look at famous stone arch, Lover’s Beach, and the sea lion colony. Depending on the vessel, you may head out into the open ocean for a panoramic look back on Cabo San Lucas Bay, or go up the Pacific Ocean side as far as the old lighthouse. Tours leave around five p.m. and vary in price depending on the boat and amenities. Generally, you will be offered a minimum of beer, sodas, bottled water and margaritas.

There are several options for sunset cruising. If you’re not into the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ party scene, make sure to specify what you want when you reserve. Pez Gato is the oldest operator and offers a booze cruise and a more romantic option. Their new Tropicat is bigger and more luxurious with light jazz to cruise by. Another good choice is family friendly La Princesa.

If you prefer a larger vessel or want dinner or snacks on board, check out the CaboRey, a huge four-level catamaran with a dinner show and a capacity for 400 passengers. CaboRey also offers snorkel day cruises. Los Cabos has a unique option for sunset and snorkel cruising for adventurous types. The Sunderland is a 110-foot tall ship built in England in 1885, sailing out of Cabo San Lucas for pirate historical tours. Built of oak with working cannons, you’ll feel you’re in another era. You can help hoist the sails or sit back and watch the action.

Most of vessels run sunset and snorkel tours and many are available for private charters. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, and your camera.

Glass Bottom Boats
A 45-minute ride in a glass-bottomed boat is a fun and affordable way for every family member to get out on the water. Catch a boat at the Cabo San Lucas marina for a tour past Pinnacle Rock and out to Lover´s Beach, near Land´s End. All along the way you’ll see a kaleidoscope of fish beneath the sea.
