CCC, Soriana, MEGA, and Aramburo are like supermarkets back home, with many familiar brands. And if you try the local name brands, you're in for a treat. Many are packaged by the same companies we know and love, but under Mexican brand names with lower prices.

Cash registers at the major stores tally in both dollars and pesos, so if you pay in dollars you'll get a fair exchange rate, although your change will be in pesos. Your groceries will be packed and taken to your car by a young boy or girl. You are expected to tip these youngsters a few pesos, but DO NOT tip with American change (coins). While American dollars are widely accepted in Mexico, American coins are not.

Pricier than the rest but worth the extra you ll shell out to get those American dairy and frozen foods some of us just can t live without. Aramburo also stocks a wide selection of gourmet salad dressings, olive oils, and other specialty hard to find goodies. Aramburo has a meat and deli counter, fresh produce, a small selection of fresh fish, and many recognizable brands.

A supermarket chain found only in Baja California Sur that is known for its good prices and selection. The vegetables and fruits are all very fresh, and the imported US brand selection is among the best you ll find. A wide variety of items including clothing, prescription drugs, household products, and magazines are carried here.

Soriana

Highway 19 to Todos Santos, leaving Cabo San Lucas, near CCC

Same type of store as CCC, with fewer imports. Good prices, but avoid Sunday shopping when many Mexican families flood the store. Then again, Sunday is a good opportunity to a get a taste of the real Mexico in one easy trip!
