Cabo San Lucas History

Cabo San Lucas is known for its signature arch, called “ El Arco ” in Spanish, a breathtaking rock formation that marks the end of the 1,000-mile-long Baja California peninsula at Land s End. A sleepy fishing village until the 1970s, Cabo San Lucas was once a hideout for pirates waiting to plunder Spanish galleons returning from the Philippines. Cabo s main beach, El Medano, fronts the bay with magnificent views of the Land s End rock formations.

The heart of Cabo is the 300-slip marina, home to the largest sport fishing fleet in Mexico, luxury yachts, and boats for sunset and activities cruises. The main drag, Marina Boulevard, snakes around the waterfront, where many restaurants, lots of shopping, and the new marina-front Plaza Puerto Paraiso (Port of Paradise) are all waiting to be discovered.Cabo San Lucas is an angler s dream. The home of many fishing tournaments, the AutoExotica Bisbee s Black and Blue is the world s richest annual offshore marlin fishing tournament. Other big attractions are watersports, diving, snorkeling, shopping, and nightlife.Cabo has two faces. During the day, it s a friendly unpretentious town that wakes up well before dawn for fishing. After dark, it s transformed into a party scene like no other in Mexico, offering a lively, carefree atmosphere with many nightclubs and bars, and guaranteed good times for all.
